Open Water Certified!
In June 2024, I fulfilled a long held dream of getting scuba certified on a sunny day in Stage Fort Beach, Gloucester MA. The picture above was taken as we were leaving the dive site having completed the fourth certification dive. Do not let the sun fool you! The water temperature was in the mid-50s and required that I wear a 7mm wetsuit.
The 7mm wetsuit did its job and I successfully demonstrated my open water skills in the open water, the last step to certification. My thanks to the folks at United Divers who ran my class - Jim, the owner of United Divers, Ernst, my instructor for the pool sessions and Brittany, my instructor that weekend. I had a great time, saw several crabs and even managed not to get lost during compass training despite visibility being 5 feet (normal in New England)!
